Become a MGRS Member Today!!
The Minnesota Garden Railway society was founded in 1990 by a small group of model rail hobbyists interested in running large scale trains in backyards and gardens. Our club today has over 120 households with varying interests and experiences. You do not have to own a train to become a member- many join to learn what's it all about before planning and purchasing their own Garden Railroad. Or simply enjoy model railroading.
During the spring, summer, and early fall, many of our members hold Open Houses (Check out our Member Layout page). This is an opportunity to meet fellow members, learn about various railway and gardening techniques, see new equipment and projects, and enjoy each other’s company. Throughout the year we publish a Monthly Newsletter and host a Winter Event and a Spring Banquet.
We invite you to join us and become a member of our informal group. We’re always happy to welcome new members, and to offer help, advice, and encouragement.
Annual dues are only $20 per household
Membership in our club includes opportunities at the Historic Wayzata Depot: gardening, maintaining the layout, and running your trains. The layout is a joint project of the Wayzata Historical Society, the City of Wayzata, and the Minnesota Garden Railway Society. Many of our members have donated time, materials and models to build the layout. You can visit it any time of year -- trains are always running weekends, weather permitting, from 1pm-4pm. In addition to Wayzata, we operate an indoor layout at the Jackson Street Roundhouse in St. Paul- see the "public display" tab for more information on both locations.
