The layout has been established for several years and is a branch line type operation with sharp curves and steep grades which limits the power configurations and train length. It manages to service its customers with a crew that not only is tasked to operate the engines but also maintain the right away. An occasional mixed extra visits the depots along the way. There is quite a bit of deferred maintenance on the route, so the track is kept passable but restricted speed is ordered over the entire railroad. The damage done by deer, racoons the weather and ballast eating wild turkeys presents a constant challenge.
Tamzyn and Farpoint, in southern Minnesota, is a track powered operation with a GP9 about the largest locomotive able to negotiate the curves. Configurations of several light engines in multiple unit operation are frequently put into service, required to pull the grades which are 5-7% due to the contour of the yard.. trackage to and through the garage provides storage tracks for equipment.
